If you read my blog earlier this week then you know that I spent my first day of student teaching at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. It was a great day!
Thinking about the rest of my first week, I made some interesting observations.
1) After seeing kids in class every day, you can begin to notice when something is "off."
So far I've been able to hear my cooperating teacher's observations of the students and how to tell when they might be having a bad day or something of the sort. I look forward to being able to recognize the changes in my students as time moves forward.
2) Planning is great but you will always stray a bit from your lesson plan.
Repetition can help with this but in a lesson there will always be a few things that you forget to do or tell your students. This happened to me on Friday afternoon as I taught my first class. It was okay, no one died, and I just corrected by giving them the info a bit later in the lesson when I happened to remember it.
3) There is time to improve!
No reason to fret because although I feel great that week one I know that there are fourteen more to go and that I can keep improving! Stay tuned to find out what I learn next week.
Angie, it sounds like you learned a lot of valuable things in your first week! It's great that you got to teach your first class, and that you are learning how to be reflexive and correct things as you go! What was the most important/useful thing that you learned this week?
ReplyDeleteI really think that I am still developing this, but absolutely the real life sight of being flexible and adaptable. I can see it happening in my future at least once a day.
DeleteAngie, You are so right!
ReplyDeleteWe plan -so that we have the option to change the plan :)
Keep up the great work and focus on the one learning thing from each day!
An awesome first day and week. Met Angie in the ag office at 7 am on Day 1 to find my sub and our our principal letting us know we would be dismissing early with the ice storm and that our PA Farm Show field trip was off. We headed to Harrisburg on our own and helped with set up, photos and clean up at the FFA Foundation CDE reception. Quick bite to eat and off to the FFA Mid Winter Convention. Angie dug right in to help with the backstage tasks of handing out awards and escorting award winners to the stage. Bee lined it to the FFA Pizza stand after the session ended for the four hour work session that our Manheim FFA members had signed up for but could not attend. Home at 10 pm to scrape 1/4" ice off Angie's car. Wrapped up our FIRST (15 hour) day.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the many more adventures that await us over the coming weeks.
